Supports constitutional ban on abortion "I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life," he says on his web site. "My convictions regarding the sanctity of life have always been clear and consistent, without equivocation or wavering. I believe that Roe v. Wade should be overturned."
Wants to amend Constitution to ban gay marriage, as Arkansas did with the state constitution when he was governor.
In a Time Magazine interview, he said, "I may not agree with it (homosexuality) and, in fact, don't agree with it. But I respect that they have the right to do it. When they want to change the rules, though, of institutions like marriage, I feel I have a responsibility to speak out. The rules are one man, one woman for life."
Opposes abrupt withdrawal and congressional resolutions that express opposition to the president's plan to increase the number of troops in Iraq. Also opposed proposals to cut funnding to the war.
"I think that this has to be the very first step that the president takes, is secure the borders, physically or electronically so that you stop this porous situation where people come across at will," he said in an interview with the Des Moines Register.
Approves if illegals pay penalties, get guest worker permits, register with authorities and aren't allowed to get in line ahead of other applicants.
